ONE WAY TO STOP ONE FORM OF SPAM FROM POPPING UP - EVEN WHEN YOU AREN'T USING YOUR BROWSER.

Disabling the "Microsoft Messenger" service will prevent the possibility of one form of especially annoying pop up spam. This spam actually advertises a pop-controller! The same company also sells spamming services. They just want revenue at your expense. The Federal Trade Commission has already banned this type of Pop-Up spam.

To disable the Microsoft Messenger Service:

· Click Start, and then click Control Panel (or point to Settings, and then click Control Panel).

· Double-click Administrative Tools. Double-click Services. Double-click Messenger.

· In the Startup type list, click Disabled. Click Stop, and then click OK.

"Microsoft Messenger" has nothing to do with 'Instant Messenger' from Microsoft, AOL, and others! Instant Messenger is a great service (aside from its own security problems). The above "fix will not affect your Instant Messaging.

Yahoo (and many of their competitors) now have spam and pop-up controls that are very effective - and no additional charge!
