RACES BUENA PARK - MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES

To become a member - You need to attend our meetings and fill out an application. This will be used by the Police Dept. to run your security check. Because we are located in EOC's during emergencies and disasters, we are required to be cleared. Our current National Yellow Alert Level requires a higher level of security - especially at Police and Fire Departments.

After your application has been cleared and accepted, you will be given a picture ID that identifies you as a Disaster Worker. .

As a member you will be expected to:

• Respond to call-out at any time 24 - 7 - 365 (after determining that your personal family are safe). Actually, call outs are few and far between - Less than one a year. These have been for a local flooding, or a need for auxiliary communications. We are still waiting for the big earthquake. Hopefully it won't occur soon!

• Participate as regularly as you can in weekly net, monthly meetings, and drills if your family or work do not conflict. Katrina, Florida severe hurricanes, and 9/11 proved that communications volunteers need to have training in message handling and operation of equipment on preset frequencies.

• Have personal equipment, supplies, and clothing ready for an emergency.

• Have family trained and supplied for a disaster before it happens.

• In a major earthquake, those members designated as first responders would automatically respond to EOC's and wait for a call out. Other members would immediately check into our regular net frequency to report any damage. Then they would continue to monitor the frequency for a possible call out. All other forms of communication could be out of service (like Katrina).

• Help install & maintain our radios in our two Emergency Operating CENTERS (EOC'S), and in our van.

• Assist BPPD by respond for special needs like assisting in locating lost children. (Less than once a year).
